SOMEBODY LIED

about

Originally a few lines scribbled down when I was twenty living in Arden Street in Edinburgh about hitch hiking to Switzerland to get away after feeling hemmed in by my circumstances at the time. It was a very simple song - still is really - but I recently added a chorus and bridge. I went through Germany hence the KOLN sign, inverted ...so no wonder I didn't get a lift. We had relatives in Switzerland surrounded by staggering mountain landscapes - the higher you went all the trappings of civilisation disappeared - borders, fences, signposts, roads, but lower down where everything seemed regulated and controlled and look closer at a barn - it contained a tank or a huge barrel of a gun along the tortuous winding roads...defenses against the invader in their rather antiseptic protected world.

lyrics

SOMEBODY LIED

It's about time I decided to leave
Feel so cramped, I just can’t believe
Hitch a ride to the land of the snow
Winter’s gone but I still want to go

So meet me my friend
Where the road twists and bends
Where the walls come to an end
And all the fences, all defenses that you grow

Where’s your smile?
You’ve been looking so glum
Go take a ride on the morning sun
A path was set, but the way had died
Cant help but feel that somebody lied

Calling on the President
Walled up in his residence with his woes
Aided by the sycophants
Never really saw the sense for all their show
I just longed for a place to go
A place to know
Covered in realms of snow

Like a leaf on a breeze blown day
Wish I had wings to fly away
Or like a gull on a surging tide
Wish I could ride and ride and ride, just ride and ride

Come on lets go, you can take my hand
Show me round your beautiful land
Hope you don't mind if I rest a while
Want to change my frown for a smile
