BORN IN A STORM

about

I used to work in an arts center in Edinburgh called The Netherbow (now the storytelling centre) and groups would hire the theatre for their events of all kinds. Such a group came up from Galloway to promote the campaign against the UKAEA test drilling in Mullwharchar, a beautiful hill in Galloway for the purpose of dumping nuclear waste. A planning application was made in January 1978 to Kyle and Carrick District Council which was rejected after considerable local protest, which included a petition with 100,000 signatures. A group of friends would head down to Galloway and meet up with the people behind the campaign .

lyrics

BORN IN A STORM

Born in a storm
Raised under the sky
We are a people with light for our eyes
Mister will you go, go away from our town
Mister will you leave
Your words are bringing me down

See the tide ebb
Feel the waves flow
Feel our hearts pull where we want to go
Mister will you leave
With your offers of gold
Mister will you leave
Your words are turning me cold

For I've still to count these sands
Still to ford the seas
Still to watch the stars falling down on me
So brother do not leave
Your place is here in this breeze
Here in the night's dark call
With the ocean's weight on us all
Your heart is beating calls you back
To the scrape of the soil, the wind in your tracks
The wind is crying, calls your name
To the hearth and the fill of the earth's good gain
Calls you back
Take your place
Hear your name once again

Hear the pipes sound
Hear the pipes call
Hear the pipes lift up
The song in us all
Mister will you leave
Your words are dealing in death
Mister will you leave
The poison clings to your breath

She was born in a storm
Raised under the sky
