LOVE HAS LOST IT'S LANGUAGE

by David Heavenor

about

Digging around in old songs at the moment which I've hardly revisited or recorded. Written in my twenties partly based on a guy I knew vaguely in Pollock Halls of Residence in Edinburgh. A friend of mine called round to my room one evening saying that this guy's girlfriend had dumped him and he was in a bad way and we should take him out somewhere. We trooped round and he was lying on his bed in a kind of catatonic state as if a death wind had blown through him. Pale, sunken cheeks, silent and wallowing in self pity . Not sure what the outcome was - this was a long time ago...

lyrics

LOVE HAS LOST ITS LANGUAGE

Sorry that I'm not concentrating on being here with you
Time is a disease in me, it makes me stare you through
And it's not that I want to disappear but I've lost the love to speak
How I long to be close to you, feel like a crazed antique

And I know I've got a heartache for a song that once lived here
I've got a heartache for someone I once was near

I'm watching waves pour down, moving in their course
I want to run into them, scream at their source
For my memories they haunt me like this broken love affair
Cast along my bay of dreams layer after layer

The way of pain distills a motion in my mind
Where love has lost its language, where love no more seems kind
And they say the way to the centre is a narrow course to tread
Never thought it would come to this, devil's deep and blue sea red
