YOUR BLACK GAMES

by David Heavenor

/

about

A song about some people who lack boundaries for example when an idea you had suddenly appears in someone else's conversation.
The Meadows are an expansive park in the Southside of Edinburgh. The Crags form part of Arthur's seat, a favourite haunt of hill walkers. In the song I suppose they represent a place to strip off the carapace that we all carry around.

lyrics

YOUR BLACK GAMES

I've seen you steal my star
I've seen you tear my saint
I've seen you scrawl your name
On all the paintings that I paint
But I can hardly wait
Hardly wait to free you

The Devil's at the door
The Hangman's at the gate
Should I let him in once more
And leave you to your fate
No I can hardly wait
Hardly wait to free you

For if you cant't be here
I don't want to be here
If you can't be real
I don't want to be named
In you black g ames
Your black g ames

Love's waiting in the square
Love's standing on the shores
Love's on the mountain top
With flames and flights and doors
And I can hardly wait
Hardly wait to free you

I know I've eyes to see you
And lips that I might tell
How great is that redeemer
Now living down your well
I'll meet you on the Meadows
Call you from the Crags
But don't wear your gorgeous costume
I want to see you dressed in rags
With your mask left in your bag
